What is Black Friday & Cyber Monday?
Of course, if you’ve been living in a hole somewhere you’ll need to know what Black Friday is. It is the biggest shopping event of the year and lots of people hunting down bargains wait for the weekend before parting with their hard earned cash.
The best news?
Shoppers usually get so much more for their money, allowing them to spend even more and it’s a super opportunity for buying early Christmas presents too.
Cyber Monday was adopted by online retailers to compete with regular offline shopping and the whole event (online and offline) lasts 3 entire days.
So, put the dates in your diary because if you want a coffee maker, this really is your best opportunity.
So why is it called Black Friday?
Well, there are conflicting ideas but the most popular is down to the way businesses present their profits. In the black means in profit (as opposed to in the red, meaning making a loss) and Black Friday is historically the day retailers in the USA make the most profit…
This phenomenon occurs in many countries now. Originally, Black Friday was the Thanksgiving sale in the USA (held the day after Thanksgiving) but because shoppers love a bargain and sale shopping has grown over the last decade, the big sale was adopted by many countries, especially the USA.
Online and High Street retailers all bring in their biggest discounts, as an example, here are some of the big names where you’re bound to hunt down a great coffee machine bargain:
- Amazon (the biggest online retailer promises remarkable discounts)
- Best Buy (a great place to buy coffee makers)
- Walmart (USA’s favorite department store)
- Tesco (two of the biggest supermarkets, and huge sellers of electrical items)
- The coffee manufacturer’s online websites, like Cuisinart, KitchenAid, Keurig coffee makers, etc.
Do Your Research Early
If you want to shop “regularly” (so not behind your computer screen), it’s a good idea to check out the coffee makers you‘re interested in first and that’s because the queues for sales are long.
Get to your chosen store early, be prepared to queue, be prepared to run to your chosen product and accept that there won’t be much assistance as crowds will be big.
So, do your research in advance. If you want to shop online and don’t want to miss out on sell-outs then get your list ready in advance and start adding to your basket as soon as the clock strikes midnight Cyber Monday.

You can even use coffee beans rather than ground coffee because it does it all for you (although it will work well with ground coffee too). Simply place the beans in the compartment, select the type of coffee you want from the cool looking, interactive screen (there’s a choice of flat white, espresso, macchiato, latte and more) and let it work its magic.
If you like your coffee strong (or weak) you simply adjust the settings to get what you need. There’s also a milk jug that froths up milk for your cappuccino or lattes but remembers this machine won’t clean itself (sadly).

It works super-fast and provides a gorgeous cup of coffee. You do need to set your grind and tamping but the reward is an amazing cup of espresso.
There’s a milk frother for your latte drinkers which you might have to fill up for when you want a very milky coffee drink but overall, it’s a great machine for a bargain price (and that’s at full!).
For Mid-Price Coffee Lovers – Smeg ECF01 Espresso Coffee Machine
