The KBT's lever settings are open for seven marked cups through a full carafe, and partially open for four to six. Closed is for stopping drips after brewing, not a pause-and-pour control. Leaving it closed for a brew risks overflow.

For both machines, the second brew involves another filter and dose. If you normally need two cups of the same coffee together, one appropriately sized batch is simpler than preparing separate servings.

Aiden's advantage is repeatable recipe control. Once a combination works for a coffee you buy regularly, save it instead of remembering a sequence of manual steps. You can also ignore advanced settings and begin with a built-in profile. It is a useful middle ground for someone who enjoys choosing beans but does not want to stand over a dripper every morning.

The factory profiles illustrate the differences: Fellow lists its light-roast profile at 210°F and 1:17, while medium uses 205°F and 1:16. These are starting recipes, not guarantees that a roast label identifies the perfect setting.

The KBT offers no temperature menu or stored bloom program. Its appeal is that another person can see the water level, prepared basket and switch without navigating a profile list. That does not remove the need to settle on coffee and grind settings; it keeps the adjustment process outside the machine's menus.

More adjustment is valuable only if you want to use it. For someone satisfied with one coffee and one daily batch, an unused programming menu adds little.

The KBT pictured here has the original tapered, stainless-lined thermal carafe. Moccamaster's current product page describes a borosilicate-glass-lined stainless carafe. The shared KBT or 79112 name does not guarantee that an older photograph, owner comment and current offer describe the same vessel.

Before ordering, look for the stated liner, actual supplied carafe and lids. This is especially worthwhile for used stock, marketplace sellers or a replacement carafe. Do not pay for a supposed newer configuration based solely on a familiar model number.

Aiden's carafe and the original KBT carafe both keep brewed coffee in an insulated vessel rather than on a warming plate. Avoid choosing between them on an assumed number of hot hours: fill level, preheating and how often the lid is opened change the job you are asking the carafe to do.

For the original KBT arrangement, the quick guide specifies the Brew-Thru lid while brewing and recommends the travel lid if holding coffee for more than an hour. A thermal carafe is useful for taking the batch to breakfast or a desk; it does not reheat cooling coffee.

Aiden looks compact when closed, but its lid has to open and the rear tank has to come out. Fellow lists an 18.5-inch height with the lid open and 16 cm of clearance below the spout. For batch brewing, use its supplied thermal carafe rather than another vessel that could overflow.

Fellow's manual and current support page disagree on the closed footprint. Confirm the exact unit's dimensions before ordering for a tight recess; a claimed width saving would be misleading here. The KBT also needs access above its reservoir and basket, plus space to remove its carafe and set down the lids.

• Above: can you open the brewer and lift a basket without hitting a cabinet?
• Behind: can you remove Aiden's tank, or comfortably pour water into the KBT?
• In front: can a full carafe come out without crossing the counter edge?
• Alongside: where will the grinder, scale and used filter go?

Try those movements with the largest mug or carafe you expect to use. A machine that fits but must be unplugged and moved twice every morning may be the wrong fit for the kitchen.

For a new US machine, Fellow lists two years of standard warranty coverage for Aiden. Eligibility includes the original buyer, an authorized seller, proof of purchase and proper care. Check any separately offered extension against the current terms instead of assuming an older registration promotion still applies.

Moccamaster provides a five-year limited warranty for new brewers. Its US manual excludes the carafe and parts from that brewer warranty and gives refurbished brewers a different term. Compare the offer you are actually buying, especially when a marketplace price is lower than the manufacturer's.

The practical distinction is support after the warranty. Moccamaster lists replacement parts and a US repair service; on October 12, its stated out-of-warranty repair fee was $99, including parts, labor and shipping in both directions. Confirm the service terms when needed. That gives an owner a concrete route to repair without turning the purchase into a promise of decades of trouble-free use.

• A burr grinder: useful for either brewer if you buy whole beans. Neither machine grinds, so include this in the initial budget if you do not already own one. Choose for filter brewing rather than assuming you need the same brand as the brewer.
• A gram scale: lets you repeat a dose and use Aiden's displayed coffee recommendation. Weigh into a separate container: Fellow's safety manual specifically warns against placing its magnetic carafe on an electronic scale.
• The correct paper filters: Aiden includes starter cone and basket filters; KBT uses No. 4 cones. Keep the right shapes stocked instead of folding an unsuitable filter into place.
• A soft cleaning brush and approved supplies: useful for carafe and basket care. For stubborn Aiden carafe stains, Fellow permits a Cafiza soak followed by thorough rinsing; that is carafe cleaning, not a substitute for machine descaler.

Both packages include a thermal carafe and the baskets needed for their normal routines. Start there. An extra carafe is worth considering only if you regularly need to serve one batch while preparing another; check exact compatibility before buying.

The coffee itself does not become cheaper because one brewer has more settings. At the same bean price and dry dose, both have the same coffee cost. Differences come from how much you brew, filters, cleaning supplies and the delivered machine price. Compare those actual costs, rather than projecting an unverified energy saving or repair bill.
