Three bodies, one capsule system

Nespresso Vertuo Pop+ vs Next vs VertuoPlus

They brew from the same Vertuo shelf. The decision is really about where the tank sits, how far the machine reaches, whether you need an 18-ounce carafe, and how much handling you want before the button press.

Coffee Corner verdict

Buy Pop+ by default. Move to Next for carafe pods, or VertuoPlus for the powered head.

The Vertuo Pop+ is the sensible starting point. It covers the sizes most people actually buy—espresso, double espresso, Gran Lungo, 8-ounce coffee, and 12-ounce XL—while staying shorter and less deep than Vertuo Next. Its 25.4-ounce tank and small capsule bin are the tax you pay for that easier footprint.

Vertuo Next earns its place through the 18-ounce carafe format. Its 5.5-inch width sounds tiny, but the 16.8-inch depth matters more on a shallow counter. The 37-ounce tank reduces refills; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth handle updates and guidance. If carafe capsules never enter the basket, it is hard to prefer Next purely on shape.

VertuoPlus remains the nicest machine to touch. A tap of the lever opens and closes the head, and its tank rotates to the side or back. It gives up current 12- and 18-ounce programs and connected updates, but its larger bin and easier loading make daily ownership feel less cramped.

No model escapes the same larger choice: Vertuo capsules cost more per cup and lock you to one capsule ecosystem. Read the full Pop+ review, compare the wider category in Best Nespresso Machines, or use the Coffee Maker Quiz if fresh-ground coffee is still in contention.

Side-by-side specifications

The width number does not tell you how the machine occupies a counter.

VertuoPlus dimensions change when its rotating tank moves from behind the body to the side. Retail variants also differ, so check the exact model code before buying.

Feature map

Choose the branch that changes your morning.

01

Need 18 ounces?

Choose Vertuo Next. It alone supports the carafe capsule in this group.

02

Hate wrestling with the head?

Choose VertuoPlus. Its powered lever does the opening and closing.

03

Short on usable depth?

Choose Pop+. Next is narrower, but reaches almost three inches farther back.

04

Want fewer refills?

Choose VertuoPlus Deluxe for 60 ounces, or Next for a smaller 37-ounce body.

Owner feedback

Convenience earns the praise; leaks, noise, and recurring pod cost earn the cautions.

Large retailer feedback for VertuoPlus clusters around simple operation, consistent coffee, and the powered head. Best Buy displayed a syndicated Nespresso rating of 4.6/5 from 7,304 reviews when checked. The recurring cautions include capsule cost, occasional leakage, and the space needed by the tank.

Pop+ owners similarly praise speed, compact design, and coffee quality; our full review records Best Buy’s 4.8/5 from 224 reviews on August 25. Its small tank, audible spin cycle, and awkward tall-mug clearance are the practical negatives.

Vertuo Next feedback is more polarized across retailer and long-term owner discussions, with repeated reports involving leaks, error lights, and connectivity. Those reports cannot establish a failure rate, and current production may differ, but they are consistent enough that we would buy from a retailer with straightforward returns.

Before checkout

Four common Vertuo questions.

Do all three machines make the same coffee?

They use the same Vertuo capsule system and barcode-led Centrifusion approach, so a shared capsule should produce a broadly similar recipe. The meaningful differences are cup-size support, tank and bin capacity, head operation, connectivity, and counter fit—not a different espresso method.

Is Vertuo Next better than Pop+?

Only when its narrower width, larger tank, or 18-ounce carafe capsule matters. Pop+ is shorter, less deep, and simpler to justify for ordinary espresso-through-12-ounce use.

Why choose VertuoPlus if it has fewer current cup sizes?

The powered head is genuinely pleasant, the tank can rotate around the machine, and its capsule bin is larger. It is the comfort pick for someone who mainly brews espresso through an 8-ounce mug.

Can these machines use Original capsules?

No. All three accept Nespresso Vertuo capsules only. OriginalLine capsules are a different shape and brewing system.
