Inside this edition

What the BES878 manual covers

The Barista Pro book explains the LCD, GRIND AMOUNT menu control, grind settings and programmable extraction. Its English section separates assembly, functions, care and troubleshooting. The cover names Barista Pro; the back cover gives BES878 Series and USCM K22, allowing an owner to distinguish this document from an Express edition.

The Pro’s first-use screen

After washing the accessories and fitting the filter, attach the filled tank, hopper and drip tray. Power-on enters FIRST CYCLE: the display shows FLUSH and illuminates 1 CUP. Press that button to run the initial rinse; the countdown ends in READY mode.

Selecting FLUSH

For routine cleaning, put a tablet on the cleaning disc in the portafilter, empty the tray and fill the tank. Enter MENU and select FLUSH with the GRIND AMOUNT dial, then start with 1 CUP. Rinse the portafilter, disc and tray after completion.

Following DESCALE prompts

Remove the water filter and use the tank’s DESCALE line for the prepared solution. Select DESCALE in MENU. The LCD guides the coffee, hot-water and steam stages, including manual steam-dial changes. Refill with fresh water for the three-stage rinse and wait for READY.

What you’ll need

FLUSH and DESCALE are separate Barista Pro prompts. A new water filter does not clear either maintenance task by itself.

Start with the supplies you already have. Use the official BES878 manual for quantities, control sequences and the complete rinse procedure.

Descaling

Descaling agent matched to your BES878

The manual has a separate DESCALE procedure and reservoir fill line. Confirm the current descaler with Breville, remove the water filter as instructed, and complete the rinse cycle.

More context for BES878 owners

Compare the Pro’s menu-driven controls with the BES870 Barista Express manual. The Breville espresso machine guide explains the range, while our coffee maker cleaning guide separates coffee residue from mineral scale.

If your label differs, check the Breville manual index. Report a mismatch with the model code, country and page or display message; do not send a serial number.
