Choose a brewed blend if you want to keep making black coffee, an instant blend for a scoop-and-stir routine, or a cacao alternative if you want a different drink altogether. Four Sigmatic and Laird fit the first group; RYZE Medium and Everyday Dose Mild fit the second. VitaCup Shroom Fuel has the lowest stated caffeine here. The right choice depends on the cup you want and the refill cost you are willing to pay.
Choose your format first
Keep your brewer: compare Four Sigmatic Focus Dark with Laird PERFORM Medium Ground. Both need brewing and let you add your own milk or sweetener. Skip brewing: compare RYZE Medium with Everyday Dose Mild; the latter contains bovine collagen. Make a ready-mixed latte: compare Om with Clevr, paying attention to sweeteners, milk ingredients and caffeine. Replace coffee: MUD/WTR Original and VitaCup are cacao-based alternatives.
A mushroom count is not a useful shortcut to choosing a drink. Six mushrooms do not establish more benefit than two, and a bigger powder dose is not automatically better. Start with dietary fit, caffeine and preparation, then decide whether the ongoing cost makes sense.
What does each serving actually cost?
These are the manufacturers’ offers for the packs named below. The middle column shows the introductory subscription; the final column shows what repeats. Retailer prices can differ. MUD/WTR’s row uses its regular 30-serving tin; the separate $34 starter offer includes extras and renews at $40. Everyday Dose’s row uses its clearly labeled 30-serving subscription; its one-time maker offer is not priced here.

Ground-coffee portions are not equal. Four Sigmatic advertises 13 servings from its current 10 oz bag. Laird’s approximately 34-portion calculation uses 10 g of grounds from a 12 oz bag. A stronger dose means fewer portions: using 20 g of Laird yields about 17, doubling its calculated cost. Compare the dose you actually use rather than treating those two portion counts as equivalent.
For a monthly budget, multiply the unrounded serving cost by your expected number of drinks, then add delivery and tax. At one labeled serving daily for 30 days, RYZE’s $36 refill costs $36 in powder; two daily servings cost $72. Check the delivery schedule too: MUD/WTR refills every four weeks, which is 28 days rather than a calendar month.
1. Four Sigmatic Focus Ground Coffee — Dark: for an existing brewing routine

Four Sigmatic Focus Dark suits a drip, French press or pour-over routine. Its ground Arabica coffee contains lion’s mane and chaga extracts, without a built-in creamer or sweetener. Brew it; these grounds will not dissolve like instant coffee.
The maker’s current bag is 10 oz; the Amazon listing linked here is 12 oz, so the manufacturer’s serving cost above does not describe that Amazon bag. With about 150 mg caffeine per 12 fl oz brewed cup, Focus is not a substantial caffeine-cutting option.

2. RYZE Mushroom Coffee — Medium Roast: a lower-caffeine instant coffee option

RYZE Medium Roast fits a scoop-and-stir routine without the milk powders of a ready-made latte. Its current formula combines instant coffee, six mushrooms and acacia, inulin and tapioca fibers. Older reviews may describe a different formula containing coconut creamer.
Medium’s current label gives approximately 50 mg caffeine per tablespoon, versus the maker’s 80–90 mg for Dark Roast. Choose the roast deliberately. The $27 first subscription shipment becomes a $36 refill after 30 days: $1.20 per labeled serving before delivery or tax.

3. Everyday Dose Coffee+ — Mild Roast: an instant blend with bovine collagen

Everyday Dose Mild is another instant option, provided bovine collagen fits your diet. Its coffee, collagen, L-theanine, chaga and lion’s mane formula contains 45 mg caffeine per serving; Medium has 90 mg. Vegan buyers should pass because of the collagen.
The maker suggests one scoop in 4–8 fl oz of warm or cold water, then frothing for 10–15 seconds. Adjusting dilution lets you try a stronger-tasting drink without doubling the powder. Select the 30-serving option when comparing the prices here; larger bundles have different terms.

4. MUD/WTR Original: a cacao-and-chai coffee alternative

MUD/WTR Original replaces coffee with a spiced cacao-and-chai drink. It is different from the brand’s separate Coffee blend. Original combines cacao, black tea and spices with four mushroom ingredients; a 6 g tablespoon contains 35 mg caffeine.
The regular 30-serving tin costs $50 once or $40 on subscription. A separate $34 starter offer includes extras and also renews at $40 every four weeks. Choose Original for a different drinking ritual; compare the ground blends if you want familiar black coffee, or VitaCup if much lower caffeine matters most.

5. Laird Superfood Organic PERFORM — Medium Roast Ground: ground coffee with four mushroom extracts

Laird PERFORM Medium Roast Ground keeps the normal brewing routine with Peruvian Arabica and four mushroom extracts. It is the medium-roast alternative to Four Sigmatic’s dark Focus, with no latte base already mixed in.
Laird’s product Q&A estimates about 100 mg caffeine from 10 g of grounds brewed with 12 fl oz of water. That dose underlies the serving-cost calculation above. Your usual stronger dose will use the bag faster; budget for your recipe before deciding it is the cheaper option.

6. Om Mushroom Coffee Latte Blend: an oat-milk latte with 110 mg caffeine
Om’s current orange box contains ten 8 g coffee-latte packets with oat milk powder, lion’s mane, cordyceps and added green-tea-sourced caffeine. Each packet lists 110 mg caffeine, 30 calories and 2 g added sugar, mixed with 8 fl oz of hot water or milk.
Check the formula before buying: Amazon’s 10-count listing still describes an older four-mushroom blend. The price above is for the maker’s current two-mushroom orange box. It is a portioned latte option, but neither a low-caffeine pick nor a product whose current formula can be judged from old Amazon reviews.

7. Clevr Coffee SuperLatte: a sweetened plant-milk latte mix

Clevr Coffee SuperLatte includes the milk base and sweetness: instant Arabica coffee, oat and coconut milk powders, erythritol and monk fruit. Three tablespoons, 24 g, make a latte with about 50 mg caffeine. Check the coconut, ashwagandha and other added ingredients against your dietary needs.
A 14-serving bag lasts two weeks at one drink daily. Its monthly plan starts at $21.75 and renews at $24.65; a separate quarterly discount requires three bags. Its much smaller owner-feedback base makes it a specific latte option rather than the default recommendation.
See the current product and label or read our Clevr Coffee SuperLatte review.
8. VitaCup Shroom Fuel Coffee Alternative: the lowest stated caffeine in this comparison

VitaCup Shroom Fuel has the lowest stated caffeine here: less than 5 mg per 3 g stick. It is a cacao-and-cinnamon drink with mushrooms, maca and B vitamins, rather than coffee. The individual sticks are convenient when you do not want to measure powder.
This comparison uses 24 sticks, each prepared with 8 fl oz of hot water or milk. Check box size before comparing prices with a 10-stick listing. Choose it for a low-caffeine alternative; compare decaf if preserving coffee flavor matters more. Added vitamins do not establish a health benefit.

What buyers like—and what gives them pause
Amazon feedback gives a useful picture of taste, mixing and repeat-purchase cost. It does not establish health benefits. Comments about different roasts, latte flavors or package generations should not decide your purchase.
Instant coffee: convenience versus cost
Recent RYZE Medium buyers praise easy mixing and a smooth coffee taste, while others prefer creamer to soften bitterness or question the price. Everyday Dose Mild receives similar taste praise; an older Mild review reports grit even after frothing. Start with the stated dilution and a single pouch before committing to several bags.
Ground coffee: a familiar routine
Laird Medium buyers describe familiar coffee flavor; a recent buyer liked the lack of an odd aftertaste but still called it pricey. Its higher star average comes from a much smaller rating base than Four Sigmatic’s, and both listings mix variants. Compare the exact roast and dose rather than declaring one automatically better.
Alternatives: expect a different drink
MUD/WTR Original has enthusiastic repeat buyers, alongside criticism of strong spice and turmeric notes. VitaCup’s 24-stick feedback includes praise for its unsweetened flavor and complaints about graininess or settling. Neither should be bought on the assumption that it will taste like black coffee.
Lattes: check the formula
Clevr Coffee buyers praise creaminess, while criticism includes price and bag-seal trouble. Its smaller feedback base calls for a cautious first purchase. Om’s listing mixes older formulas and pack sizes, so those reviews cannot tell you how the current orange-box formula will taste.
Mixing tips and common problems
Use the directions for the exact product. Four Sigmatic and Laird are grounds; the other six are powders intended for mixing. Extra powder increases the serving’s caffeine and other ingredients, so adjust dilution before making a second scoop your default.
- Everyday Dose Mild tastes too diluted: if you used 8 fl oz, try the same single scoop with 4 fl oz next time, within the maker’s stated range. Compare whether the more concentrated drink suits you before adding another serving.
- RYZE Medium leaves powder at the bottom: distinguish loose sediment from dry lumps. Use RYZE’s specific Medium directions: one US tablespoon (15 mL) in 6 US fl oz of hot water or milk, stir or froth, then stir again while drinking. Observe whether the powder disperses more evenly; some settling is expected.
- A latte is sweeter than you want: check whether you added creamer or sweetener to an already sweetened mix. Prepare the next cup with the package’s water quantity alone. If that is still too sweet, compare an unsweetened coffee blend rather than buying more of the same latte.
Handle hot water carefully, leave room for a frother in the mug, and keep splashes away from hands. For a brewed option, our French press guide explains the brewing workflow; keep the product’s own dose in mind when estimating bag yield.
Caffeine, ingredients and who should take care
These products range from less than 5 mg caffeine per VitaCup stick to about 150 mg per 12 fl oz Four Sigmatic cup. The servings differ. Include other coffee, tea and energy drinks in your total; the caffeine calculator estimates intake rather than determining your personal safe amount.
The FDA cites 400 mg a day as an amount not generally associated with negative effects for most adults. It is not a target or an individual guarantee. Sensitivity, medication and health conditions can change what is appropriate. If less caffeine is your only aim, ordinary decaf is also worth considering.
Avoid ingredients you are allergic to. Ask a qualified clinician before using mushroom or herbal blends during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for a child, or alongside medication or a medical condition. Memorial Sloan Kettering flags reishi interactions with blood thinners and immunosuppressants. Collagen, coconut, oat ingredients and added herbs also make these products unsuitable for some diets.
Operation Supplement Safety describes limited evidence for mushroom supplements and combination-product safety. A study of one ingredient does not prove that the finished drink delivers a health benefit. Buy for a suitable drink and ingredient list, not a promise to treat a condition.
Frequently asked questions
Can mushroom coffee replace ordinary coffee for less caffeine?
Sometimes. Everyday Dose Mild, RYZE Medium and the cacao alternatives have lower stated serving amounts than the ground coffees here. Four Sigmatic Focus is still a regular-caffeine coffee. Compare your usual cup with the actual serving, and consider decaf if you want coffee with fewer added ingredients.
Can I make these drinks without a scale or special brewer?
The instant products can be portioned using their own directions: one Om packet in 8 US fl oz of hot water or milk, or one VitaCup stick in 8 US fl oz of hot water or milk. Eight US fl oz is one US measuring cup. For scooped powders, use the included scoop or the stated tablespoon measure; one scoop is not interchangeable across brands. Ground Four Sigmatic and Laird still need a coffee brewer.
Is a subscription worth it?
Only if you like the drink and can use the refills at that pace. Compare the renewal cost with a one-time purchase, including delivery. A 14-serving bag is only two weeks at one serving a day, while two servings daily use a 30-serving pouch in 15 days. Read the cancellation deadline before the next order; a first-order discount is not the ongoing price.
