The short answer
Start with milk, then decide what “coffee” means.
The Premier is the more useful fit for mixed drink orders. Choose it when one person wants a large coffee and another wants a latte with less manual milk work. Cold foam is an additional reason to prefer it if you actually drink it regularly.
Choose the Arte Evo when you want to learn manual steaming and prefer espresso-based long drinks. Its hot-water outlet is useful for Americanos and other hot-water needs. Buying it only because a traditional-looking machine must make superior espresso would be the wrong reason; this comparison does not establish that.
Neither suits someone expecting a finished latte from one button. Both involve a portafilter and cleanup. If you already own a grinder or mainly want batch filter coffee, explore the alternatives in our espresso-machine buying guide before committing to an integrated espresso setup.
The differences that matter
Features, with their everyday consequences.
Separate capabilities from claims of quality. A grinder-setting count or pump-pressure figure cannot tell you which coffee you will prefer.
| Decision point | PremierES601 | Arte EvoEC9255M | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dose preparation | Guided weight-based dosing; assisted tamper | Dose dial and manual tamper | De’Longhi asks you to establish the dose yourself. |
| Milk | Automatic hot-milk programs and cold foam | Manual steam wand | Programs reduce pitcher technique; manual steaming gives you that job. |
| Long drink | Coffee program up to 18 oz | Americano plus hot-water function | A large coffee and diluted espresso are different preparations. |
| Cold extraction | Cold-brew and cold-pressed-espresso modes | Cold-brew program | Both have a dedicated cold option. |
| Grinder settings | 25 | 8 | Do not turn a larger count into a taste or precision score. |
| Espresso basket options | Double and quad | Single and double | The supplied basket should match your intended drink. |
Use the exact model in Ninja’s product information and the US EC9255M support center; similarly named regional models and newer La Specialista machines differ.

The everyday difference
The first drink sets up the next one.
Premier: a guided sequence
Follow the grind prompts for the selected basket, tamp, move the handle to the brew head and start.
Arte Evo: set the dose yourself
Match the basket to the one- or two-cup selection. Grind with the funnel fitted, tamp, then remove the funnel and lock in the handle. The dose-dial numbers are not grams; use the basket’s dose indicator after tamping.
For a second drink, remove the used grounds and prepare a clean, dry basket before grinding again. Treat this as part of the routine, particularly when two people want different drinks. Leave room for the used handle, a cloth and the next cup so the counter does not become an obstacle course.
The Arte Evo’s controls appeal if you enjoy knowing which adjustment you made and why. They are less appealing when several users expect identical results without learning the setup. The Premier’s prompts can help coordinate a shared machine, although no guidance system removes the need to follow the sequence.
Before choosing, look through the EC9255M quick-start guide and instructions. Familiarity with a brand’s automatic machines does not mean this manual portafilter model will feel the same.
The everyday difference
Do you want to practice milk texture?
The Premier handles the active frothing program; the Arte Evo puts the pitcher in your hand. If you want a latte before leaving the house, that is a practical difference. If learning to steam is the reason you are buying an espresso machine, it is also a reason to prefer the De’Longhi rather than something to apologize for.
Premier
Fill the jug between its marked minimum and maximum, seat it and select the milk program. Afterward, remove it, wipe the wand and lower it to purge. Stay nearby.
Arte Evo
Purge briefly, then steam cold milk while controlling the pitcher. Stop with the steam button and wait for steam to cease before removing the jug. Wipe and purge the wand promptly.
For the next latte, clean the jug and start with fresh cold milk. Buying either machine does not establish how quickly you can serve a line of guests; the second drink includes preparation and cleanup. Think through the whole sequence rather than comparing promotional heat-up times.
Our cappuccino guide helps you decide whether hands-on milk texture is something you want to learn. Keep a cloth ready before steaming, and leave room to move the jug without your hand crossing the hot wand.
The everyday difference
Cold brew does not separate these machines.
Both have a cold-brew mode, so “it makes cold coffee” is not a useful deciding argument. Choose around the other drinks you make and the steps you are willing to repeat. Neither mode should be assumed to taste identical to a long refrigerated steep or to the other machine’s output.
There is a specific transition to know on the Arte Evo: after a hot drink, its US manual calls for cooling the circuit before cold brew, using the cold setting to run water briefly into an empty container. The gauge does not rise in that cold mode. It is not the same espresso-pressure check as a hot shot.
For longer hot drinks, the Arte Evo makes Americanos; the Premier offers a coffee program. Someone who enjoys a mug of diluted espresso may prefer the first arrangement. Someone shopping to replace a regular coffee maker should consider the second more carefully. Calling both results “black coffee” hides the decision.
The ES601 lacks the dedicated hot-water function found higher in Ninja’s range. If hot water is a regular need, account for a kettle with the Premier. Do not assume a feature from the Pro is present just because its body looks familiar.
The everyday difference
The controls need useful feedback.
On the Arte Evo, a shot that pours too freely and tastes thin is a different problem from a shot that barely moves and tastes harsh. With a suitable dose already established, De’Longhi’s guidance points toward a finer setting for the first problem and a coarser one for the second. Compare the next flow and taste before making another change. Adjust its grinder only while it is running, as the manual directs.
That gives the owner a useful experiment, rather than a demand to chase a pressure-gauge position. A dial showing a number is not a measurement of how pleasant your drink will be. Record the bean, dose and outcome if you want to find your way back to a setting you liked.
Arte Evo also exposes pre-infusion choices. Treat these as later adjustments, after you have a workable dose and grind. More adjustable variables can be enjoyable, but they are not automatically more convenient.
If this sounds like satisfying experimentation, the manual workflow is a reasonable fit. If it sounds like a chore you will avoid, prioritize guidance instead. The detailed Arte Evo review is the next step before committing to that style of ownership.
The everyday difference
Leave space to operate and clean it.
Do not buy on an unverified claim that one saves a particular number of counter inches. Ninja’s published dimension fields conflict, and regional De’Longhi listings can describe different configurations. Confirm labeled dimensions for the exact US unit with the seller before relying on a tight fit.
- Reach the supplies: check bean-hopper and water-tank access, including what must lift out.
- Make room for the jug: rehearse where your hand and pitcher would move.
- Remove the tray: leave a clear path in front for a tray containing liquid.
- Check your actual cup: include the height of any scale, rather than assuming the display cup proves yours fits.
Ninja prohibits operation under wall cabinets or inside appliance garages. A closed-body footprint does not show operating clearance. The photos below identify controls and access points; the machines are not pictured at a common physical scale.

The everyday difference
Buy extras for a job, not a shopping list.
The Arte Evo’s kit covers the core routine: portafilter, single/double baskets, dosing funnel, tamper, jug and starter cleaning items. Ninja includes its own handle and baskets, assisted tamper, funnel, jug and whisk. Check the actual seller’s contents, particularly with returned or open-box stock; a missing proprietary part may erase the saving.
A small espresso scale can help an Arte Evo owner compare doses and beverage yields. Check that the scale and cup fit together beneath the spouts. On the Premier, add one for a specific measurement you want to make, rather than duplicating its dose guidance by default.
A knock box and separate cleaning cloths are practical station additions. Start with the supplied milk jug and tamper before replacing them. An accessory should solve an observed difficulty, not promise better coffee solely because it looks more professional.
Cleaning supplies are model-specific purchases. Ninja’s compatible kit groups several different consumables. De’Longhi’s DLSC500 descaler is intended for its coffee machines. Do not treat tablets, descaler and water filters as interchangeable products, or presume that a generic portafilter or jug will fit both machines.
The everyday difference
Grinder access deserves attention.
A milk drink is not finished until the wand is clean. Grounds and water also need clearing from the basket and tray. Automated frothing does not automate those jobs. Place cleaning supplies where they are easy to use so a convenient brewing routine does not become an inconvenient cleanup routine.
If the Arte Evo grinder runs but grounds fail to reach the basket, the maker identifies a clogged coffee funnel as one possible cause and shows how to brush the attachment area and funnel. If that does not resolve it, use support; repeated grinding is not a substitute for diagnosis. Do not copy owners’ cabinet-disassembly instructions.
Set its water-hardness setting to match the water you use. A frequent prompt may reflect that setting, but it is not a reason to ignore descaling. Complete the specified rinse as well as the cleaning solution stage.
Ninja has separate cleaning and descaling prompts; use its own instructions. Care procedures are a more useful comparison than a vague claim that one machine is “maintenance-free.”
The everyday difference
Compare checkout prices and coverage.
On October 12, 2026, the selected Amazon listings showed $599 for the Premier and $699.95 for the Arte Evo, making the Ninja $100.95 cheaper in that snapshot. A sale can change that order. Use the current prices for the exact variants, not a permanent “budget winner” label.
If you use the same beans at the same daily dose, coffee spending is equal. There is no evidence here that either design saves a particular amount of coffee. Add the actual extras you need; keep milk, water, electricity and uncertain repairs separate from the bean calculation.
Ninja’s US limited warranty is one year. De’Longhi’s posted general manual-machine warranty provides one year, while its US warranty page offers an additional year with eligible registration and says the product’s packaged terms take precedence. Confirm the exact purchase and registration coverage; a sitewide three-year banner should not be assumed to cover this model automatically.
Keep the receipt and check seller eligibility. A slightly lower checkout price is less attractive if it comes with an incomplete kit or unclear support. Conversely, paying more for manual milk only makes sense if that is a routine you actually prefer.
Dated owner evidence
The same stars, different amounts of evidence.
The displayed scores match, but the Premier has a larger rating pool. That deserves weight when comparing the owner evidence. The De’Longhi total is especially easy to misread: its Amazon listing also offers Touch, Opera and Maestro, so not every rating describes the Arte Evo. These are global ratings, not US written-review counts.
Premier
Owners appreciated: guided preparation and programmed milk.
Watch for: a learning curve, handle-lock effort and drip-tray management.
Arte Evo
Owners appreciated: the included kit, drink choices and hands-on milk control.
Watch for: reports of grinder blockage or failure and mixed service experiences, alongside satisfied daily users.
Those reports make grinder operation and support worth checking during the return period; they do not establish how frequently a fault occurs. Try your preferred beans, the milk routine and the complete cleanup. Make the decision on relevant evidence and daily fit, not on matching star averages alone.

Your comparison questions, answered.
Is the Arte Evo the same as the regular Arte?
No. This comparison covers US EC9255M with a cold-brew program. EC9155 Arte and other La Specialista products have different features. Match the full model code before applying a review or ordering parts.
Does eight grinder settings make the Arte Evo a worse machine?
The number of positions alone cannot establish that. Judge whether the controls suit your beans and routine; do not convert a specification count into an espresso-quality score.
Can either replace a one-button latte machine?
Not if you expect a finished drink without handling a portafilter. Ninja automates the milk program but still leaves preparation, pouring and cleanup to you. Arte Evo adds manual pitcher work.
What if I mostly want a cold drink?
Both offer cold-brew modes. Decide whether you also need automatic cold foam, regular coffee or a hot-water outlet, and whether you prefer guided or manual preparation. Cold brew alone does not settle this pairing.
